Mary Diez
Mary Diez is Co-Director of the Southeastern Wisconsin Assessment
Collaborative (SEWAC). Dean of the Graduate Program at Alverno College, she
has been involved in education for 34 years, as a middle and high school
English teacher, college teacher of English, communication, and education,
and Dean of Teacher Education at Alverno. Winner of the McGraw Prize in
Education in 1995 and former member of the National Board for Professional
Teaching Standards, she is a recognized leader in teacher education reform
in the United States. She has worked with Milwaukee area school districts in
many projects related to standards and assessment over the last 15 years.
Mary is excited about the collaborative efforts underway through SEWAC to

Doreen Britton Lange
Doreen Britton Lange has recently joined the Alverno staff and will be
working with the Southeastern Wisconsin Assessment Collaborative (SEWAC).
She has 34 years of experience in public education. She has been an
elementary teacher, a reading resource teacher, an elementary assistant
principal, an elementary principal and a K-8 leadership specialist. Doreen
has worked with performance assessments and with balanced literacy in
several schools. She serves on the Milwaukee Leadership Task Force and has
worked with the Milwaukee Partnership, a group of community and university
leaders working together for the achievement of students in Milwaukee. In
addition, she has served as co- director for one of the National Association
of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), Selecting and Developing the 21st
Century Principal, assessment centers and is also a trainer of assessors in
this program. Doreen is looking forward to working with SEWAC and with
schools as they develop and advance balanced assessments for their schools
and districts.
